Jessi: Top 25 Indonesian Questions You Need to Know - Lesson 21: Are you hungry in Indonesian? In each lesson of this 25 part series, you'll master a common question for Indonesian learners, and then learn how to answer it like a native. You'll learn how these key phrases work by breaking them down into each component. Then through repetition and new vocabulary, you'll expand your understanding of the question, its answers, and any variations.
In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question "Are you hungry?" In Indonesian this is
Fira: Apakah kamu lapar?
The first word in the question “Are you hungry?” is
Fira: apakah
Jessi: "meaning what" in English. Listen to it syllable by syllable.
Fira: (Slow, by syllable) apakah
Jessi: Listen again at natural speed. Please repeat.
Fira: apakah

Jessi: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the English translation, breaking it down by syllable, and then giving it once more at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question, Are you hungry? is
Fira: kamu
Jessi: meaning you.

Now it's time for a quiz. Imagine you are visiting Indonesia and a friend asks you if you're hungry. You want to answer Yes, I'm a little hungry.. Respond to the question.

Jessi: Now you want to say Yes, I'm very hungry. Respond to the question.

Jessi: You want to say Yes, I'm starving.. Respond to the question.
Fira: Apakah kamu lapar? (five seconds) Iya, saya kelaparan.
Jessi: You want to ask your friend if they are hungry. Ask the question
