Fira: Apa kabarmu?
The first word in the question โ€œHow are you?โ€ is
Fira: apa
Jessi: "meaning what" in English. Listen to it syllable by syllable.
Fira: (Slow, by syllable) apa
Jessi: Listen again at natural speed. Please repeat.
Fira: apa

Jessi: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the English translation, breaking it down by syllable, and then giving it once more at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question, How are you? is

Thank you for your question. To answer your question, not really. To make it formal, you can replace โ€œ-muโ€ (shortened from kamu meaning you) with โ€œAndaโ€ (the formal โ€œyouโ€). Apa kabar itself is neutral.


โ€œApa kabarmu?โ€ or โ€œApa kabar kamu?โ€ can be used among friends and family, or by someone older to someone younger.
