Eric: Welcome to 3-Minute Indonesian Season 1, Lesson 9 - Using Adjectives. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to use adjectives in simple sentences in Indonesian.

Eric: Here's the formal way to say “I’m tall” in Indonesian.
Fira: [Normal] Saya tinggi.
Eric: First is a word meaning “I, me.”
Fira: [Normal] saya [Slow] saya
Eric: Last is the word meaning “tall.”
Fira: [Normal] tinggi [Slow] tinggi
Eric: Listen again to the formal phrase meaning “I’m tall.”
Fira: [Slow] Saya tinggi. [Normal] Saya tinggi.
Eric: Ok, now let's take a look at the formal way to say “I’m busy.”
Fira: [Normal] Saya sedang sibuk.
Eric: First is a word meaning “I, me.”
Fira: [Normal] saya [Slow] saya
Eric: Next is the word meaning “in the process of.”
Fira: [Normal] sedang [Slow] sedang
Eric: Last is the word meaning “busy.”

Cultural Insight
Eric: Now it's time for a quick cultural insight.
Fira: If you want to emphasize a particular adjective in Indonesian, you can use the word sangat before the adjective. As in sangat indah, which is "really beautiful." Please note that indah is used to describe scenery. But you would say sangat cantik to compliment someone’s looks. And sangat enak is used to describe a tasty meal.
