Eric: Welcome to 3-Minute Indonesian Season 1, Lesson 14 - When Are You Leaving? In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask when someone is leaving in Indonesian.

Eric: Here's the informal way to ask “When are you leaving?” in Indonesian.
Fira: [Normal] Kapan kamu akan jalan?
Eric: First is a word meaning “when.”
Fira: [Normal] kapan [Slow] kapan
Eric: Next is the informal word meaning “you.”
Fira: [Normal] kamu [Slow] kamu
Eric: Next is the word meaning “will.”
Fira: [Normal] akan [Slow] akan
Eric: Last is the word meaning “to go, to walk.”
Fira: [Normal] jalan [Slow] jalan
Eric: Note the rising intonation. Listen again to the informal question meaning “When are you leaving?”

Eric: Now, imagine you're speaking to a stranger. Here's the formal way to ask, “When are you leaving?”

Eric: Now it's time for a quick cultural insight.
Fira: To ask how long an action has been taking place in Indonesian, we could say Sudah berapa lama?, but if you want to ask someone how long they have been waiting, say Kamu sudah menunggu berapa lama? It means "How long have you been waiting?
