Eric: Welcome to 3-Minute Indonesian Season 1, Lesson 10 - Asking How Much Something Costs. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask how much something costs in Indonesian.

Eric: Here's the informal way to ask “How much does this cost?” in Indonesian.
Fira: [Normal] Ini harganya berapa?
Eric: First is a word meaning “this.”
Fira: [Normal] ini [Slow] ini
Eric: Next is the word meaning “the price.”
Fira: [Normal] harganya [Slow] harganya
Eric: Last is the word meaning “how much” or “how many.”
Fira: [Normal] berapa [Slow] berapa
Eric: Note the rising intonation. Listen again to the informal question meaning “How much does this cost?”
Fira: [Slow] Ini harganya berapa? [Normal] Ini harganya berapa?
Eric: Now, imagine you're speaking to a stranger. Here's the formal way to ask “How much does this cost?”
Fira: [Normal] Berapa harga ini?
Eric: First is a word meaning “how much” or “how many.”

Eric: Next is the word meaning “price.”

Eric: Now it's time for a quick cultural insight.
Fira: A quicker way to ask “How much?” is Berapa? For example, when you ask for a coffee or kopi at the counter of a coffee shop, you can ask the cashier Pesan kopi dong, berapa? Meaning “One coffee please, how much is it?”
